The EU project “Support to Education Sector in Turkmenistan” continues consequent support for implementation of the Conception of the advancement of teaching foreign languages in Turkmenistan, approved by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan of December 22, 2017.
On November 30th, 2018, 16 teachers of foreign languages (English, Russian, Chinese) from the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management had the final session and certificates’ award for the 28-hours in-service teacher training program “Effective development of student competences in foreign languages.”. The program offerered with support of Senior Expert Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei focused on important aspects of teaching foreign languages for professional purposes, including teachers’ experience sharing, methods and techniques for development of effective communicative skills in foreign language, as well as examples of practical application of provisions offered in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
At the final session, the teachers shared their recent experiences of applying new knowledge and skills in their work with students, mentioning that interactive techniques and small group activities have raised students’ interest and involvement during the lessons, creating a motivating learning environment.
The training participants and experts discussed the program outcomes, in terms of process, relationships and results as dimensions of success, as well as shared ideas for further professional development activities that will foster improvement of command of foreign language competences for students from TSIEM departments of Management, Marketing, Economy and Finance.
